From its beginnings in the academy, American Studies
has been a inherently interdisciplinary affair, rooted in the recognition that
the culture of the United States is no simple object, but rather a diverse and
multifaceted complex of ideas, artifacts, and practices. The goal of the
American Studies Research Cluster is to bring
together a number of scholars from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds
and departments, including English, History, Sociology, Art History,
Music, and Political Science,
so that their individual projects can benefit from dialogue and intellectual
