Final Background - The Bubblers Medley, #22
The final background image (an hence default on this "clickable" image) is
of a maritime scene. This is most obvious if one looks at the area
immediately around the "Quinquempoix Street" item. It would appear that
the artist designed the collage-like medley in this manner to convey the
fact that the intrinsic purpose of the South Sea Company--i.e., overseas
trade to the South Seas--was being forgotten or blocked out by the frenzy
of stock-trading or the cultural obsession with "bubbles" as represented
by the numerous overlaid items.
