Gerry McNeil makes the save off Tod Sloan of the Toronto Maple Leafs during Game Four (April 19th) of the 1951 Stanley Cup Finals; Floyd Curry is the player attempting to check Sloan. Photo is distinguished by the simultaneous flash of another camera on the opposite side of the rink, which produces a halo effect around Sloan’s head. Note also the number of other cameras along the boards. These photographers were close to the action and weren’t shooting through protective glass.

An unknown photographer took this shot after a game. While a number of fans are smiling and ready to leave, Theresa McNeil, Gerry McNeil’s wife, remains nervously smoking in her seat. The scene speaks volumes about the pressure felt by family members who must watch while their love ones tend goal.
