Nova Scotia Juniors - Win @ 2007 Nationals !

Maria Dugas wins Womens "B" Title - Adam Colford & Alex Gerrior win Mens' "C" Titles. The 2007 Canadian National 4Wall HandballChampionships were held in Montreal Quebec. With more than 200 people, 3 Nova Scotians stood out in the crowd. Maria Dugas, a 17 Year old, grade 11 student at Queen Elizabeth High School in Halifax, competed in the WOMENS divisions instead of the junior girls events. She captured the womens "B" title by defeating Toronto's, Carly Stickles 21-20, 21-12.

Maria then teamed up with Samantha England (originally from British Columbia) to finish 2nd in the Women's Open Doubles, losing to 2006 Canadian & World Doubles Champions Jessica Gawley of Regina, Saskatchewan and Lisa Fraser of WInnipeg, Manitoba 21-10, 21-11. At the final banquet, Maria Dugas was also presented with "The Rene' Hurley Award" for best Junior Athlete.

Nova Scotia's 2007 Under 19 champion, Alex Gerrior of Antigonish, NS captured The Canadian National Men's "C" Title by defeating Ryan Elliott of Niagra Falls, Ont 21-9, 21-18. The 18 year old Gerrior then teamed up with fellow Nova Scotian Adam Colford of Halifax to capture the Canadian National Men's "C" Doubles Title. They did this by defeating D. Robinson & N. Bajwa from the United States, 21-18, 21-14.

 

Junior Handball - @ The Halifax YMCA - South Park Street, Monday evenings 7-9pm with coach Ed Dugas and Saturday mornings 10-2pm with coach Steve Brown.
