Professor Mark
Stradiotto (mark.stradiotto<at>dal.ca)
Prof.
Mark Stradiotto received his BSc (Hons.) in Applied
Chemistry (1995) and PhD in Organometallic
Chemistry (1999) from McMaster University, the latter under the supervision
of Profs. Michael A. Brook and Michael J. McGlinchey.
After conducting research as an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at the University
of California at Berkeley in the research group of Prof. T. Don Tilley
(1999-2001), Mark moved to the Department of Chemistry at Dalhousie
University; he now holds the rank of Professor with tenure and has been named
a Faculty of Science Killam Professor (2011-2016).
Prof. Stradiotto is a member of the editorial advisory board of Organometallics,
and has also been named a Synlett/Synthesis

Mark MacLean (mr747849<at>dal.ca)
Current
Degree Program: M.Sc. Mark was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia and completed his Honours
B.Sc. in Chemistry at Dalhousie University in 2011. His Honours project was
supervised by Laura Turculet, pertaining to iridium
pincer complexes supported by multidentate silyl ligands and their
application in bond activation. Mark received the John Carstairs
Arnell Prize, awarded for defending the best
Honours research project in his graduating class. His past research
experience includes carrying out two NSERC USRA research terms; to the
University of Calgary (Roland Roesler supervising)
in 2009, and to McGill University (Gonzalo Cosa supervising) in 2010. Mark currently holds an NSERC
CGS-M scholarship. |

Earl Cook (er732010<at>dal.ca)
Current
Degree Program: M.Sc. Earl was
born in Halifax and raised in East River, Nova Scotia. He completed his Honours
BSc. jointly between Dalhousie and Mount Saint
Vincent University in 2011 under the supervision of Dr. Aibing
Xia. His previous research experience
involves the synthesis of novel palladium complexes containing
8-quinolylphosphinite ligands for use in the Suzuki
cross-coupling reaction and palladium and nickel complexes containing
nonsymmetrical tridentate pyrazolyl aminophosphines for use in the Suzuki and Kumada reactions, respectively. His work as been supported by three
consecutive NSERC USRA awards. Earl
currently holds an NSERC CGS-M scholarship. Sarah Crawford (Sarah.Crawford<at>dal.Ca)
PDF Sarah was born in Mission, British Columbia. She
completed her honours B.Sc. in chemistry at the
University of Victoria in 2007, under the supervision of Dr. Reginald H.
Mitchell. She also did five co-op job placements during her degree, which
included positions at Boehringer Ingelheim (Laval) and Amgen (San Francisco). Sarah
completed her Ph.D. at Dalhousie University in 2011 under the supervision of
Dr. Alison Thompson. Her research involved investigations into the synthesis
and complexation of dipyrrins,
pyrrolyldipyrrins and prodigiosenes.
Sarah received an NSERC PGSM, an NSERC PGSD and the Dalhousie President’s
Graduate Teaching Assistant Award during the course of her graduate studies.
In her time outside of the lab, Sarah enjoys playing the piano and cooking. |
Craig Wheaton (craig.wheaton<at>dal.ca)
PDF Craig
was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and grew up in
various small towns across the province. He moved to Sackville, New Brunswick
where he completed his honours B.Sc. degree at
Mount Allison University in 2005. He completed a M.Sc. at the University of
Western Ontario under the supervision of Dr. Dick Puddephatt
in 2007 and then moved west to Lethbridge, Alberta,
where he completed his Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Paul Hayes, working on cationic zinc complexes for use as catalysts
for lactide polymerization. Craig is thrilled to
finally be back home in the Maritimes, where he took up a Killam
Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2011. |
