Muppets: an appreciation
Did you know that the Jim Henson Company considers all of their puppets to be muppets? It's because they are marionette-hand puppet crosses. Many of us think of muppets as just the characters from The Muppet Show and movies, but we're actually quite wrong.
This page is about the Muppets from The Muppet Show and the Muppet movies. To visit muppets from other shows, click the links on the right to visit the other pages on this site.
Jim Henson with his muppet friends
Kermit the Frog
The world's oldest (and favourite) frog. Happy 50th, Kermit!
Miss Piggy
Model, actress, secretary, tough girl, the love of Kermit's life, and the saviour of the muppets on multiple occasions.
Fozzie Bear
As a stand-up comedian, he's not so hot, but as a friend he's great.
The Great Gonzo
An alien plumber in a relationship (on and off) with a hen.
Rowlf
He was smooth, he was cool, and sadly, he was voiced by Jim Henson.
Statler and Waldorf
They're crabby and mean, and they like it that way!
Dr. Bunson Honeydew and Beaker
Inventors of some of the most useful products ever.
Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem
The coolest bunch of muppets that you ever did see. Animal, one of the "main" muppets, is one of their number. From left to right they are (top row): Janice, Dr. Teeth, Animal; (bottom row) Floyd and Zoot. The band was sadly diminished by the death of Jim Henson, AKA the voice of Dr. Teeth.
