Several famous artists have lived in Waidhofen, and paintings of Waidhofen abound. A good place to look for the older ones is the Town Museum [Stadtmuseum]. I am invoking artistic license here by including two oils from the early 1980's, which have been created by two visual artists close to me.To enlarge the two paintings, please click their captions. By the way, the first image includes the clearly recognizable Ybbsturm [Ybbs Tower] together with other impressions. The second image depicts the view from my late parents' apartment in Zell on Ybbs, toward the Schnabelberg (in the middle) and Waidhofen proper, during a (rare) snow-and-ice storm at Easter. What is true of painters is also true of writers. Two poems by Dr. Ehrentraut Helmberg-Lanner are included - together with English translations - in the Words between Worlds - Worte zwischen Welten site. As it turns out - completely accidental, believe me - the two poems have some connections to the two paintings shown here. Behind the central Ybbs Tower shown in the painting on the left, there is a small, medieval alley that I used to to illustrate Dr. Helmberg's poem "Town Triste IV". And her beloved "Buchenberg" is the mountain obscured by window frame and weather on the left side of Icy Easter. Incidentally, the complete paintings of Dr. Joseph M. Augl have recently been archived and can be seen in THE AUGL GALLERY .
