HERRENGASSE

Strolling the streets of the Innere Stadt, among them the Herrengasse, is one of the musts for the tourist. The Viennese like that too. But their strolls tend to end prematurely in one of the many open-air restaurants. There's one beer for the thirst, another one "because you can't stand on one leg", and the obligatory "one for the road" - not to mention the ones in between...

Lest that scares you: The Austrian beer is delicious; there is no law against amicable tipsiness on the street; there's always a Metro nearby, running at 1 to 5 minute intervals (much faster and more comfortable than any car); most of the Inner City is "pedestrians only" anyway; and, where you can drive as in the Herrengasse, you could not find a parking spot for love or euros...
