The first district of Vienna - the Inner City, i.e. what was once the walled, medieval town - is a U.N. Heritage site and by itself a museum. You will find working relicts of the past wherever you go.NB: One tourist favorite shown below is the large mosaic of Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper". Being a mosaic, it is in far better shape than the original fresco in Milano. It adorns the Minoritenkirche (Church of the Minorites), the "home" church of the many Italians in Vienna. Milano (Mailand) was connected with Vienna by many bonds. For one, Vienna learned from Milano how to make first-rate chocolates (Remember the Nipples of Venus in "Amadeus"?) And the forerunner of the world-famous Wiener Schnitzel (veal, please, never pork!) is the "Cotoletta alla Milanese". Dankeschön Mailand! |
