Non-Destructive Rock Bolt Testing using guided waves and numerical modelling

Guided waves behave very differently from bulk waves in many ways because of the unique structure conditions and the big difference of material properties of the steel bolt and rockmass. The ultimate goal of this research is to develop a non-destructive technology for in situ rock bolts testing:

- bolt loading condition (Fig: bolt load)
- bolt integrity
- bolt/rock bond quality
- rock structure and ground movement

At present, this research is focusing on characterization of free and grouted rock bolts under vaouies field conditions and differet wave frequencies. Current work is on guided ultrasounic wave testing and numerical simulation of grouted bolt.
